Why I’ve Got Obama’s Back

Get Obama's Back

Brit Tzedek v’Shalom launched today a campaign to back Obama’s push for two states, negotiations and an agreed end to hostilities. Sign the pledge! I’ve been working on this campaign for the past two weeks, taking a lead on the social media and web components of it, thus I’m very very excited to see the planning come to life!

Why the language of “We’ve got Obama’s back?”

I’ve got Obama’s back because he needs the support of the American Jewish community. He needs to have the vibrant, robust and excited backing of American Jews who are sick, tired and angry with the past American approaches. His approach is the one we need, of active diplomatic engagement with all parties.

To wait for a right-wing Israeli government that can’t even mutter “two-state solution” will mean another decade of fighting.

To expect stability on the Palestinian side without supporting and rewarding moderates, diplomacy and steps towards a Palestinian unity government will mean another decade of fighting.

To wait for two incalcitrant sides to get around to it will mean more of what we have now: wars on the backs of civilians.

I’ve got Obama’s back against the naysayers, the spoilers and the cynical — especially those in the Jewish community.

I want you, reader, to join this pledge, be you Jew or Gentile. Because you’re going to be seeing a lot of it from me over the next two weeks.

Mr. President: I’ve got your back. Go for broke.
