I’m just saying.
Another war, seemingly the largest single product of the Jewish national movement. Survival of our people? In a “scared of the sky” kind of way.
Some people seem to get so impassioned about their Zionism when there’s killing to be done. Like, who hoo! I just can’t get into it. I don’t take personal [...]

Just in case you never thought I defended Israel
Gaza is a bloody mess, and emotions are high. Protesters around the world are decrying the bombing, the Jewish PR machine has cranked into overdrive. I don’t count on people being very rational in these times, and I myself struggle to be level-headed. Then again, I agree sometimes it’s just too much.
I’m very progressive, liberal, left [...]

Safeguarding Jewish universalism in times of terror
Last week, I was accused on two separate occasions and blogs of not issuing a “peep” and of a “deafening silence” about the Mumbai killings. One was even on a blog with nothing to do with international affairs. Meanwhile, the conservative blogs are in a bloody feeding frenzy.

Goldberg to Levy: “Are you a Zionist?”

Bibi’s “economic peace”
Gershom Gorenberg lucidly explains why Bibi’s “economic peace” of investing in the Palestinian economy (without specifics) while turning down all negotiations is not only a guaranteed failure, but has already been tried by Moshe Dayan.
Dayan never lived to see the intifadas he thought would never happen, since the Palestinians were apparently not content with rising [...]

Becoming a Jewish communal professional, memory #67
Scene: Me, blurry-eyed, sitting on a couch at the Pearlman Retreat Center near DC for a conference of young Zionist Jews, next to a Cuban Socialist Zionist immigrant to Israel and representative of the Jewish Agency. A nice enough guy, as far as his politics go.
Me: I was sexiled last night.
Cuban Zionist, heavy Spanish-Hebrew accent: [...]
