Hebron settlers always in the news these days

I care a lot about Hebron, in a very odd way. I was there twice in 2004 and again in 2008 with Israeli activists seeking to expose the regularity of settler violence against Israelis and Palestinians alike. Everything that is ugly about the Palestinian terrorists, we Jews can find in our Hebrew breathren in Hebron. Bombings, mass killings, and even rock throwing by children. And after working for Breaking the Silence in early 2008, I gained an even closer affinity for the young men my age doing that work there.

It was while writing a post for Jewschool on the latest statement by Mikhael Manekin of Breaking the Silence that I stumbled across Yehuda Shaul in this new documentary about Hebron. It’s going to be a hard film to watch — the trailer is painful enough. But it’s important.

And now my bank has failed. It’s definitely time for bed.

Your bank failed? (I know that it’s statistically likely, and I know that it’s trivial in the face of the larger issue, but are you okay?)

Wow, intense clip. Do you know if there’s a way to get ahold of that movie in Israel?

My only issue is that this is clearly a one-sided documentary, or at least from what I saw it seemed that way. I dunno, I have to go visit before I make a true decision on how I feel.

Luckily, I’ll be going soon for a piece I’m writing, so I’ll report back.

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I don’t know about the film, you’d have to check their web site (listed at the end of the clip).

You should definitely go to Hebron for a visit. I know a great group of young former soldiers who lead tours there so people can see for themselves how screwed up it is. Hebron is the worst example of settlers, settlements, Jewish extremism and security interests gone awry that I’ve ever seen. I’ve been there at least four times and it’s heartbreaking each time.
